Nate spent only one year at Williams, but made it count. His score of 6:30, the third best ever at the school, was a surprise to everyone. It had been three years since a boy had scored so well. He tried to run the retake to break the school record but was unsuccessful. Nate passed every fitness test he took.

MADISON BURGER

Madison has left a lasting impression at Williams elementary school, on it'steachers, and on it's students. After an incredible three years that saw her score seven straight Mile of Fame times, she blew the girl's mile run record away! To top that off she nearly beat the 5 year old boys school record! Her incredible years at Williams were further topped off by winning the first annual County mile run championship! Madison's records are far to numerous to brag about but one thing is for sure... success awaits this student!

SARAH COLLINGS

Sarah came to Williams in the 3rd grade and made a quick athletic impression. In her first run she managed to make the "Mile of Fame". It took quite a while for her to improve her time but did it right by nearly breaking the 7 minute mile time at the end of the fifth grade! Four Mile of Fame scores makes her one of the greatest runners Williams has seen.

Andy had a great PE carrer during his time at Williams. In his last run he missed the "Mile of Fame" by 13 seconds. He opted to do the end of the year retake and to his surprise, but not mine, he made the "Mile of Fame" by one second!

JESSICA PU

Jessica worked hard all year to enter the "Mile of Fame" since she had been so close in all her previous attempts. Not only did she make the time but she ended her elementary PE career as the Williams Elementary School girls mile run record holder. Jessica made Presidential Fitness Award in both of her end of the year fitness tests.

TJ MOLINOS

TJ came to Williams at the beginning of the 4th grade and made the "Mile of Fame" in her first mile run. In her two year career at Williams, she had three qualifying times out of four attempts. These three times possibly made up the best career for a girl runner at Williams Elementary. TJ passed every fitness test she took at Williams.

BYRON BOUCIAS

Byron made the "Mile of Fame" on his last run. He passed seven out of his eight Fitness tests. He was another member of the super running grade who had nine students in the "Mile of Fame".

LADRAY LOVETT

Ladray came to Williams at the beginning of the 3rd grade and was, of course, a member of the super running grade. Ladray passed every fitness test he took and won a Presidential Fitness Award in the 3rd grade. Ladray had two times that were within ten seconds of the "Mile of Fame". He needed a retake at the end of the 5th grade in order to qualify for the "Mile of Fame" and made it count, a 6:31!

DAGMAWI GEBRE

DG, as he was known, came to Williams in the 4th grade, and was the last of the super running grade to make the "Mile of Fame". He was another that waited until the last run to qualify. He did it right and scored the second fastest mile run ever at Williams, a 6:29. He actually ran this time with fellow qualifier, Lionel Robinson, as he ran 6:30 at the same time.

LIONEL ROBINSON
.
Lionel followed a similar path into the "Mile of Fame" as rival DeAngelo Thompson. He first entered the "Mile of Fame" in the 4th grade and ended his elementary PE career with three qualifying times. His last run was eight seconds off the school record! He passed every fitness test he ever took, five at the Presidential level. He is one of only three students to ever pass three end of the year Presidential Fitness Awards and was a pull up test away from making it a clean sweep. Yet another member of the super running grade.

ZENE CLAYTON

Zene came to Williams in the middle of the 4th grade and, as a member of the super running grade, did not get left out of the "Mile of Fame". Before leaving in the middle of the 5th grade, he made the "Mile of Fame" by one second at the start of the 5th grade year.

AKARI CASON

Akari came to Williams at the beginning of the 3rd grade. She was another member of the super running grade and was determined not to pass up the chance to add her name to Williams history. In her last run before moving at the end of the 4th grade, she squeaked into the "Mile of Fame" with a 7:58. She was one of five in this single homeroom to end up in the "Mile of Fame".

DENNIS MAVIN

Dennis could be the best athlete that ever attended Williams and he has the records to prove it! He is still the only 3rd grade boy to ever make the "Mile of Fame". He set the school record at the beginning of the 4th grade at the age of 9. That time is both a school record and 9 year old record. He also is the fastest 8 year old boy ever. Dennis is one of only three students ever at Williams to have three end of the year Presidential Fitness Awards and he only missed the sit ups in his last attempt.

Rui was four seconds from being a member of the "Mile of Fame" Class of 2000. He was determined to make the time and picked a strong running partner, Aaron Brockington, as he made the "Mile of Fame" on his final attempt. Rui passed every fitness test from the third grade through the 5th grade.

ARTUR BARBOSA

Artur was a good athlete and unexpectedly made the "Mile of Fame" in his last attempt. He ran at the same time as Andre Bouie when he set the long standing school record. Artur's feat was nothing more than deciding he just did not want to be left out of this elite group!

DE'ANGELO THOMPSON

DeAngelo entered the "Mile of Fame" for the first time in the fourth grade and by the end of the 5th grade, he was the first three time qualifier along with Lionel Robinson. He passed every test, eight National Fitness Awards, and could remember every time he scored in the mile run. He was one of the leaders of the super running grade. He still holds the 7 year old school record for pull ups with a score of 14!

AARON BROCKINGTON

Aaron made the "Mile of Fame" on his final attempt after a successful PE career at Williams. In eight attempts starting in the 2nd grade, he never ran slower than 8:30 and improved on every run. He passed every fitness test he ever took at Williams and is one of seven students in Williams history that have achieved two or more Presidential Awards on end of the year tests.

ANDRE BOUIE

Andre made the "Mile of Fame" while a 4th grader in 2000 but was most well-known for breaking the long-standing Williams Elementary mile record on his last run in the 5th grade. Falling behind pace, he yelled most of his last lap to beat the three year old record by four seconds. Andre passed every fitness test he ever took while at Williams.

NATASHA SLATER

Out of no where, Natasha arrived in the middle of her 3rd grade year and on her first ever mile run, made the "Mile of Fame". Not only was she the first 3rd grade girl to make it, but she charted the second best girls time ever. Natasha, a twin, would not be able to match her amazing score again and left Williams after the 4th grade. She was the first member of the super running grade to make the "Mile of Fame".

CASEY MILLER

Casey was the first 3rd grade student to make the "Mile of Fame". She beat her time at the beginning of the 4th grade but could never manage to break the eight minute mark again. She passed the end of the year fitness test all four years!

YOANA ORTEGA

Yoana became the third girl in the "Mile of Fame" on her last run. Unfortunately, the last run was at the end of 4th grade and she moved on to another school for her 5th grade year. She had a great chance to break the school girls record but it was not to happen. She is one of only seven students to have at least two Presidential Fitness Awards!

DEQUAIN MONDS

DeQuain was the original record holder in October 1997 with a time of 7:44 but managed to surpass that mark in May 1998 and hold the school record until 2001. He was motivated to set this low mark after his record was temporarily beaten in May 1998 by Andrew Maddox and Sammy Mitchell.

December 2005 UPDATE! DeQuain Monds is currently enrolled at Santa Fe Community College. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 2005. DeQuain was one of Florida's fastest high school track athletes his senior year. He did the 100 meter dash, triple jump, long jump, 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash. In the 200 meter, DeQuain came in 1st at the 2005 regional meet and 4th in the 2005 state track meet! His 4 x 200 running team won the 2005 Florida Relay event! He still plans to pursue track in college and hopes to get a scholarship soon.

ANDREW MADDOX
.
Andrew surprised the school when in May 1998, he became the first member of the "Mile of Fame". He was helped by classmate Sammy Mitchell, who also made the "Mile of Fame" with the same time. He still holds the 12 year old school pull up record with 14!

December 2005 UPDATE: Andrew is currently enrolled at Santa Fe Community College. He graduated from Buchholz High School in 2005 and was the High School State Champion in his weight class his senior year. His bench press was 280 and his clean and jerk 210, for a total of 490. He destroyed the rest of the competitors, second place being only 465.

SAMMY MITCHELL

Sammy arrived at Williams in February of 1998, his fifth grade year, and in three months, managed to earn a spot in the "Mile of Fame" as it's first member.

LATOYA WILLIAMS

Latoya became the first girl in the "Mile of Fame" in 1998. Later, in May of 1999, her last run, she set the school record at 7:14 which would continue to be the girls record until 2002. She was the first person with two qualifying scores!

December 2005 UPDATE: Latoya is a senior at Eastside High School this year and has already been very successful in girls basketball. She is rated the sixth best player in Florida this year. Last year, her team was runner-up state champions. She has been Gainesville Sun player of the year and was 2nd team all-state two years in a row. All this and she has just started her senior year!

JAZELLE FIELDS

Jazelle battled Latoya Williams to try and earn the title as fastest girl ever at Williams. She ran 7:47 in October 1998 and held the title for seven months before Latoya beat her score in May 1999. Jazelle was on the elite Gainesville Striders track team and was very successful. She still hold the 12 year old school record in the sit and reach with a score of 47!
