DEQUAIN MONDS

DeQuain was the original record holder in October 1997 with a time of 7:44 but managed to surpass that mark in May 1998 and hold the school record until 2001. He was motivated to set this low mark after his record was temporarily beaten in May 1998 by Andrew Maddox and Sammy Mitchell.

December 2005 UPDATE! DeQuain Monds is currently enrolled at Santa Fe Community College. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 2005. DeQuain was one of Florida's fastest high school track athletes his senior year. He did the 100 meter dash, triple jump, long jump, 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash. In the 200 meter, DeQuain came in 1st at the 2005 regional meet and 4th in the 2005 state track meet! His 4 x 200 running team won the 2005 Florida Relay event! He still plans to pursue track in college and hopes to get a scholarship soon.

ANDREW MADDOX

Andrew surprised the school when in May 1998, he became the first member of the "Mile of Fame". He was helped by classmate Sammy Mitchell, who also made the "Mile of Fame" with the same time. He still holds the 12 year old school pull up record with 14!

December 2005 UPDATE: Andrew is currently enrolled at Santa Fe Community College. He graduated from Buchholz High School in 2005 and was the High School State Champion in his weight class his senior year. His bench press was 280 and his clean and jerk 210, for a total of 490. He destroyed the rest of the competitors, second place being only 465.

SAMMY MITCHELL

Sammy arrived at Williams in February of 1998, his fifth grade year, and in three months, managed to earn a spot in the "Mile of Fame" as it's first member.

LATOYA WILLIAMS

Latoya became the first girl in the "Mile of Fame" in 1998. Later, in May of 1999, her last run, she set the school record at 7:14 which would continue to be the girls record until 2002. She was the first person with two qualifying scores!

December 2005 UPDATE: Latoya is a senior at Eastside High School this year and has already been very successful in girls basketball. She is rated the sixth best player in Florida this year. Last year, her team was runner-up state champions. She has been Gainesville Sun player of the year and was 2nd team all-state two years in a row. All this and she has just started her senior year!

JAZELLE FIELDS

Jazelle battled Latoya Williams to try and earn the title as fastest girl ever at Williams. She ran 7:47 in October 1998 and held the title for seven months before Latoya beat her score in May 1999. Jazelle was on the elite Gainesville Striders track team and was very successful. She still hold the 12 year old school record in the sit and reach with a score of 47!
